Have you ever stopped to think?
Just how far along you’ve come in life?
Age isn’t just a number,
Although we may be forced to limit ourselves to that number,
When it comes to certain things in life
Remember once upon a time,
When the world ‘recess’ made you tingle
Tingle with excitement beyond comparison?
Where as now, it takes on a whole new meaning
When your best friend was a simple swing-set (or slide if
you wish it)
Begging you to come out and play
But now, the only thing that keeps your fancy
Is an automobile, or a number written in green
Where a gold star on a piece of paper meant the world to you
Where getting to write on the chalkboard filled your
heart with glee
And who could forget the addiction to glue or learning about division
The simple pleasures in life one felt at a simple time in life
Now all but a memory
Today, the opposite sex may make your heart skip a beat
Or the struggling aspect of working, commute, driving in general
Or going to a popular concert with your friends, styling
with the latest fashion
The swing-set misses you, the gold star misses you, the chalkboard
They are all still there, or perhaps they were torn down to make way for the new?
They hold a special place in your heart and will never leave
Do you see the playground differently now then you did when you were young?
You may even understand it’s meaning and value it more than you could have before
Your life continues to go on
Values change, things change, everything changes
Time will not wait; it ticks without a single care in the world
Remember when you dreaded fractions and getting cooties?
Through the hustle and bustle of your everyday events
Between the accumulating stress of work and love
Remember to visit your old friends on the playground
They’ll be happy to see you, and then
Maybe just for one whole minute
You can swing to your hearts’ content
Just like back then
