Save the Last Dance For Me

Out of the corner of my eye, sadness reigns from your bed of tears

Cast off like a surplus load you only wish the enchantment of a single dance
The festivities draws near to an end, you rise from your slump to exit away
I race over to block your leave as I realize this may be my last chance to say

I have witnessed the sorrow from your tears as you have wept

I too have been alone tonight, lacking of a partner who would show me her steps
The similar fates that rest upon us are harsh, and still I have but one question for thee

“Would thou please share the last dance with me?”

Your eyes light up like a hurdling sunrise not wanting to wait any longer to rise

I feel the warmth of emotion swelling up within the tincture of my cheeks
We venture off towards a place in the park where crickets pipe in melody

Extending my hand, your grasp entwines with mine, so tight yet so gently

So long have I wanted to experience this passion with you

The feelings burns bright like a flame beneath my chest

Follow my lead, and forever it shall be

The two of us together within this dance of harmony

I tip you back to gaze in full-view of the nighttime splendor

Extend outward to twist amongst the breeze, yet not to stray far from my hold

Draw into my visionary eyes, vivid as the flowerbeds that surround our space
The moonlight guiding our steps in the spotlight of nature’s grace

Time is not limitless, no matter how much we try to believe it is so
And such as of this renowned rule, all good things must eventually come to a close

But for me, this moment will forever be treasured within the depths of my mind
Because there’s nothing I’d rather be doing than this, there is surely no place that I’d rather be
Than within the comfort of your tender arms, as you’ve saved the last dance for me…
