At First Sight

At first sight
I saw a hope shimmering within a promise
Bonded by the fruits of ecstasy in a pure white light
Bathing in roses several inches high, the scent breathtaking

At first sight
The fragrances of paradise stirred within my head
Dancing to the point of folly,
Where even thoughts cannot be separated from actions

At first sight
A painted portrait was the only thing in scrutiny
A frail praise of sheer bewildering of what may and may not be
Suspended in a timid display of affection and devotion that plays the keys of a grand piano
Slowing as the keys are played by the hands of conception

At first sight
Remorse and displeasure may invoke an deviant imbalance
Destiny is forbidden, Fate is preset, and the Future is vague
All standalone points in the time continuum are meaningless
And memories become fragments of our imaginations

At first sight
An illusion is elusive, yet the course can be played
Minute-by-minute, hour-by-hour, year-by-year
It makes no difference, as time is yours to create and destroy

At first sight,
Looks can be deceiving, like a hallucination in a desert
For underneath the layer, or behind the uncertainty
Lies the buried truth of what is it you thought you once saw
Can the truth really be as different than what it had appeared to be at first glance?

You must submerge deeper into the waters of reality
Only when you have done this can the fact be revealed
As daunting as this task may prove to be, it must be done
Before you are ever able to look at the same thing again
And believe that even at first sight, nothing is definite
Play your keys correctly, and perhaps a new chapter will be told
